Pep Guardiola wants to take former Barcelona defender Dani Alves to Manchester City, sources have told ESPN FC.

Alves, 34, is in the final year of a two-year contract with Juventus and could be available for as little as £5 million.

City are without a senior recognised right-back after releasing Pablo Zabaleta and Gael Clichy at the end of the their contracts.

They have been heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur’s Kyle Walker and ESPN FC has been told that a deal for Alves does not necessarily end their interest in the England international.

Guardiola knows all about the qualities of Alves having worked with him at Barcelona during his four years in charge at the Nou Camp.

Dani Alves could swap Serie A for the Premier League.

After winning six La Liga titles and three Champions Leagues at Barca, he moved to Juve last season where he won the Serie A and Coppa Italia double and helped them to reach the Champions League final.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Alves, but the Brazilian may choose to work with Guardiola — a coach he has hailed in the past.

“He is a genius. I’ll say it again: a genius. Pep would tell you exactly how everything was going to happen in a match before it even happened,” he wrote in the Players Tribune last month.

City are also in the market for two left-backs with Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy and Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand identified as top targets.
