Napoli extended their Serie A record this season to seven straight wins with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Cagliari.
Maurizio Sarri’s side started the weekend top of the table on goal difference from Juventus and made light work of their Sardinian visitors.
Marek Hamsik, Dries Mertens and Kalidou Koulibaly wrapped up a routine win as Napoli scored at least three goals for the 11th successive time in Serie A.
Hamsik fired Napoli ahead inside four minutes from Mertens’ clever pass, the Slovakian midfielder moving to within one of Diego Maradona’s 115-goal club record.
Lorenzo Insigne sent a free header wide from eight yards as Cagliari struggled to get out of their half.
But Napoli doubled their lead five minutes before the interval when Filippo Romagna clumsily barged over Mertens in the penalty area.
Mertens picked himself to stroke home the spot-kick, his seventh goals in as many Serie A games and his ninth in all competitions.
Cagliari conceded again within two minutes of the second half when they failed to cut out Jorginho’s free-kick.
Koulibaly failed to connect with his first effort, but he stabbed his second attempt past Cagliari goalkeeper Alessio Cragno at his near post.
