Managers from the top Premier League clubs reacted with surprise, sadness and praise after learning Jose Mourinho had been dismissed at Man United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has picked youngsters Angel Gomes and James Garner in his first squad as Manchester United interim manager.

Gomes, 18, and Garner, 17, travelled to Cardiff on Friday ahead of the Premier League clash at the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday evening.

Sources have told ESPN FC that part of the decision to axe Jose Mourinho on Tuesday was because he had failed to adequately develop the club’s young players.

It is something Solskjaer, appointed as caretaker boss until the end of the season on Wednesday, has looked to rectify immediately by picking Gomes and Garner, two highly rated youngsters, in his first provisional squad.

Forward Gomes has already made two first-team appearances after making his debut under Mourinho as a 16-year-old in 2016.

Midfielder Garner was named on the bench for the first time for the 2-1 defeat to Valencia in the Champions League.

Garner, an England youth international, starred for the under-18s in their 4-3 win over holders Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup on Monday night — a game sources have told ESPN FC was watched by Solskjaer even before he knew he would be installed as the next manager.

Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez has returned to Carrington after returning to Chile for treatment on a hamstring injury.

The 30-year-old will miss the trip to Cardiff but could be back in contention for Bournemouth’s visit to Old Trafford on Dec. 30.
