Clubs, English FA Community Shield, Liverpool, Manchester City, Story

Claudio Bravo saved Georginio Wijnaldum‘s penalty as Manchester City beat Liverpool 5-4 on spot-kicks to win the Community Shield at Wembley.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring from close range in the 12th minute after an excellent combination between Oleksandr Zinchenko and David Silva created the opportunity.

In the second half Sterling struck a post from an offside position and faltered when through one-on-one with Alisson, while Virgil van Dijk saw an effort strike the underside of the bar and Mohamed Salah hit the outside of the post.

Joel Matip headed Liverpool level on 77 minutes from Van Dijk’s cross and Jurgen Klopp’s side had chances to win it through Salah and Xherdan Shaqiri before the game went to penalties.
