Diego Costa scored his second goal in two games for Atletico Madrid but was sent off for his celebrations.

Diego Costa was sent off after being shown a second yellow card for his celebrations after scoring in Atletico Madrid‘s 2-0 La Liga victory over Getafe on Saturday.

Costa, who was making his first La Liga appearance since his return to Atletico from Chelsea, picked up his first booking in the 62nd minute and, after scoring in the 68th, went toward the fans at the Wanda Metropolitano to celebrate but was dismissed for his actions.

The Spain international had also scored in the 4-0 Copa del Rey victory at Lleida on Wednesday.

Second-placed Atletico are six points behind leaders Barcelona, having played a game more, and two clear of third-placed Valencia, who came from behind to defeat Girona 2-1 at the Mestalla.

The hosts, beaten in three of their previous four league matches, fell behind in the eighth minute when former Valencia player Portu headed in from Johan Mojica’s delivery.

Los Che drew level just before the half-hour mark through an own goal by Jonas Ramalho, who diverted Goncalo Guedes’ cross past Bono.

And Valencia skipper Dani Parejo then struck what proved the winner from the penalty spot three minutes into the second half after Jose Luis Gaya was brought down by Pablo Maffeo.

There was also a 2-1 come-from-behind result at rock-bottom Las Palmas, whose first league match since bringing Paco Jemez back in as boss ended in defeat to Eibar.

Jemez’s men were 1-0 up thanks to a 32nd-minute penalty by Jonathan Viera, but Fabian Orellana’s close-range finish in the 73rd minute cancelled that out and a Sergi Enrich header four minutes later completed the turnaround.
