Former Real Madrid midfielder Santiago Solari will lead the Spanish giants in their defence of the FIFA Club World Cup title next month after being confirmed as the team’s head coach, with the former Argentinian international signing a deal with Los Merengues until 30 June 2021 on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old was placed in temporary charge of the Santiago Bernabeu outfit following the departure of Julen Lopetegui late last month.

Since taking the reins, Solari has led Real to four victories in as many matches, with his side scoring 15 goals and conceding only two in that time.

He will aim to lead Madrid to a fourth Club World Cup title when they open their UAE 2018 campaign in the semi-finals on 19 December.
