DaMarcus Beasley will be back with the Dynamo in 2018.

The Houston Dynamo have re-signed U.S. international defender DaMarcus Beasley, the club announced on Thursday.

“We are extremely pleased to have DaMarcus return to the Houston Dynamo,” Houston general manager Matt Jordan said of the signing.

“He is a true professional both on and off the field and an important leader in our group. It was important to bring him back as we look to build on the strong foundation we’ve built in preparation for the 2018 season.”

Beasley, 35, joined the Dynamo from Mexican side Puebla in the summer of 2014. He signed a one-year deal after his contract expired at the end of last season, and will now remain with the club, though the specifics of his contract were not immediately disclosed.

“I am excited about having DaMarcus back because he is a true leader and a role model. He demonstrates his professionalism in the way he takes care of himself, and the way he behaves on and off the field is important,” said Dynamo coach Wilmer Cabrera.

“In the locker room, he is a point of reference for all his teammates. As a player, he still delivers quality and a proficient level of soccer, ideas, talent and we need that this season.”

Beasley made 24 regular-season appearances last season, recording one assist, as he helped the club to their first playoff berth in four years. He also made three appearances for the U.S. in 2017, the last coming in a September World Cup qualifier against Honduras.

Beasley began his club career with the Chicago Fire before moving to the Dutch Eredivisie with PSV in 2004. He spent one season on loan with Manchester City before three years with Rangers in Scotland, one with Hannover in the Bundesliga and another with Puebla.
