Marius Wolf is Dortmund’s second signing of the summer.

Borussia Dortmund have signed Marius Wolf from Eintracht Frankfurt on a five-year contract, the club announced on Monday.

Wolf, 23, scored five goals and provided nine assists for Frankfurt in the Bundesliga last season and also played a pivotal role in Niko Kovac’s DFB Pokal winning side, including a 3-1 success in the final over Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Kicker reported last week that Dortmund would activate a clause of around €5 million in the versatile 23-year-old’s contract.

He will bring more competition for Christian Pulisic and Andriy Yarmolenko in right midfield but can also cover various positions on the field such as right-back.

“Marius Wolf is a very promising player with great potential,” Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc said. “The combination of his footballing quality and his excellent mentality makes him into a perfect player for Borussia Dortmund.”

Wolf, who came up through 1860 Munich’s youth ranks, moved to Hannover in 2015 and made his Bundesliga debut in February 2016. He joined Frankfurt on loan last summer, and the club made the move permanent in January.

“I’m very pleased to get an opportunity to develop further at such a big club. My aim is to be successful with Dortmund in the coming years and ideally, at the same time, win a few titles,” he said.

Dortmund are in the midst of a bigger summer overhaul in which the club wants to prioritise secondary virtues and a winning mentality more over just focusing on technical skills like they had done in past transfer windows, according to CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.

Wolf is Dortmund’s second signing of the summer after the acquisition of goalkeeper Marwin Hitz, who arrived shortly before the appointment of new Dortmund coach Lucien Favre.
